The MGHS Flexible Learning Options centre enables students to engage in learning that meets their diverse learning needs through a variety of pathways. Educational offerings to students include TAFE courses, Vocational Education Training, traineeships and apprenticeships, as well as FLO core subjects including Maths, English, Research Project, Personal Learning Plan. In addition, mainstream subjects are still offered. All students are assigned a case manager who work with the student, their parents/caregivers, the FLO and VET Coordinators, to arrange the educational program that best meets the personal needs and educational goals of the student.

TLK Youth College, a division of Tuggerah Lakes Community College Limited, is a registered and accredited non-government, non-political or religious school, specifically designed for the inclusion of young people who have been unable to complete their studies in conventional high schools. The school caters for students from Year 9 to Year 12, using a proven and successful model for young people on the Central Coast. A key difference lies in the adult education setting, where the school encourages learning, freedom of thought, independence, mutual respect and responsibility.

The John Berne School’s priority is to prepare students for a return to mainstream education, for entering trade training or other employment options, and the staff pride themselves in achieving this. Skillset Senior College is an innovative, independent senior school for students in Years 10-12. Our mission is to partner with young people who may be experiencing barriers to their education and to support them to complete their secondary schooling. Our students have the opportunity to undertake NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority) approved courses, leading to a Higher School Certificate (HSC) or Record of School Achievement (ROSA) in an alternative educational setting.

Margaret Jurd College is a registered, non-government alternative option for young people who may not have been able to engage with mainstream secondary education … and we do this as a proud part of the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA). The college was created by the community of Newcastle in collaboration with UCA more than three decades ago to provide educational opportunities within a holistic, caring and supportive environment. Many of our students live with traumatic histories, mental health conditions, behavioural disorders and Autism. As a result of disrupted education, many new students perform well below grade level in reading and spelling.

The community college is an educational hub and home to family of training and educational programs. Our programs cater for the needs and interests of young people secondary school students in years 9-12, the general community, third age learners, and adults with a disability in supported employment, training and lifestyle activities.
